  • For these Shopee Sellers, live selling is crucial to the growth of their online business

For these Shopee Sellers, live selling is crucial to the growth of their online business

Three winners of the first Shopee Live Star Seller Awards share their e-commerce journey.

MANILA, SEPTEMBER 20, 2022 -Live selling has seen a tremendous boom in recent years as it has become a key part in enhancing the whole online shopping experience for both sellers and buyers. In time for its 9.9 Super Shopping Day, Shopee launched its first ever Shopee Live Star Seller Awards to give recognition to 99 hardworking and talented sellers who reached milestones in their online selling journey.

Shopee Live has become a platform for Shopee sellers to engage with buyers in real time and enhance their customer service experience. Sellers on the live streaming platform also have access to an array of seller tools that can maximize their streaming sessions to help increase their sales and boost customer engagement. With this, three Shopee sellers shared their personal stories on how Shopee Live helped them grow their business and more importantly, changed their lives.

It only takes a mobile phone and determination to start

Cecille, shop owner of Cilebritee and a mother of two, started live selling when she chanced upon the Shopee Live feature on the platform. “Noong nakita kong may Shopee Live button sa Shopee ko, tinesting ko lang. Hindi ako prepared. Wala akong kahit anong gamit o equipment. Ang meron lang ako ay talent sa pagtitinda at cellphone,” she shared.

When Cecille first started using Shopee Live, she sold women’s bags while sitting on the floor with her phone. She was thrilled that she sold out on her first night so she decided to keep going. From only 50 orders a night, she now gets over a thousand. Cecille shared how the Coins Giveaway feature helped her stand out and get more sales, especially during Double Day campaigns. “Tinutulungan rin ako ng Shopee Livestream team kung paano i-improve yung sales ko at maging isa sa mga top sellers.”, Cecille said.

Today, she is consistently a top performer on Shopee Live. She has her own Live Room with advanced equipment and a full livestream set-up. Cecille even manages a staff of 15 to provide them with means to generate income. “Nakakabili na kami ng mga pangangailangan namin sa pang araw-araw. Madami kaming nagagawa ngayon hindi namin magagawa kung hindi namin sinubukan ang Shopee Live.”, shared Cecille.

Making the brave decision to go online with live selling

Jeferson, shop owner of Shoppup2, transitioned from the BPO sector to being a full-time Shopee Live seller. “In 2017, I decided to resign with only ₱35,000 in my pocket. In every decision we make, we have the responsibility to face it, and it’s up to us to make it work”, Jeferson shared.

He started selling women’s bags and accessories, as there was a big market for it. As years passed, he was able to grow his business and even employ more than 15 staff to help with quality control, packaging, and customer service. Even when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it didn’t stop them and they grew their orders by the thousands.

He shared that the In-App Business Insights tool was a key feature that helped him succeed, as it helps keep track of his streams’ performance. They are able to improve on his live selling strategy to generate more orders. Another was the Chat Broadcast feature which builds excitement  about the upcoming items that they can expect on his next stream.

“I no longer have to worry about my bills, and I’m now more able to provide more than enough for my loved ones being the breadwinner of my family,” Jefferson shared.

Choosing to stay and grow with Shopee Live

Trixie, shop owner of Mercatofinds, took a leap of faith when she chose to become a full-time Shopee Live seller over working in Italy. “It wasn’t an easy decision – never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that I could earn more online than working abroad,”Trixie shared. “I was a fresh graduate and I didn’t have any experience. All I had was my love for fashion and my dreams to reach.”

Months before her flight, she started selling clothes on Shopee Live, and she was surprised that her stock was sold out. As she continued selling women’s apparel on Shopee Live, she learned how to maximize its features, specifically the Polling feature, as it helps her gauge what items her customers are interested in. When her business grew, she made the choice to make a living with Shopee live, and not go abroad.

At present, Trixie now employs her own staff, has her own office space and has invested in other ventures as well. More importantly, she shared that she gets to do all of this while still being able to spend time with her family. “I cannot imagine where I’d be without Shopee, and it turned out to be the best decision of my life. Salamat, Shopee!”, she shared. If you want to be a Shopee Live Seller and drive your business forward, learn more and Get Started on Shopee.

  • How these top-performing sellers grow their businesses through Shopee’s mega sales

How these top-performing sellers grow their businesses through Shopee’s mega sales

Shopee’s Seller Recognition Operations Awardees highlight how efficient operations contribute to online success.

In the Philippines, double day dates such as 9.9 and 11.11 have become highly anticipated due to shopping festivals offered by platforms such as Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan. In fact, last year over 2 billion items were purchased by shoppers during 11.11 alone across the region. This uptick in purchases made during mega-sales allowed more than 1,000 local sellers across the region to exceed US$100,000 in sales during Shopee’s year-end festivals in 2021.

Alongside hard work and determination, the success of Shopee sellers relies heavily on how efficiently they operate. This is especially true during mega-sales where the opportunity for growth is high. For this reason, Shopee recognizes sellers who go above and beyond in time for Shopee’s mega-sale days through its Seller Recognition Operations Awards.

Martin Yu, Shopee Philippines Director, said, “Shopee has always been committed to helping businesses create long-term, sustainable e-commerce strategies in today’s digital economy. Through the Seller Recognition Operations Awards, we are able to highlight top-performing sellers in this regard, as well as their strategies and insights which their fellow sellers can learn from and apply to their businesses.”

Jenna Indigado, owner of Small Wonders Page and a recent awardee, is among those who diligently prepares for and maximizes mega-sale days to grow her business on Shopee. She decided to become a full-fledged Shopee seller in 2020 when her agricultural business was affected by the African Swine Flu (ASF) breakout that year.

“After our hog-raising business was affected by ASF, I made the decision to sell on Shopee full-time. I already had a part-time reselling business on the platform in 2018 so I knew the potential for growth was huge especially if I committed my time and resources to it.”

She went on to hire a local seamstress to grow her reselling business into one that manufactures clothing for babies. Today, she employs more than 300 Filipinos.

“There were only two of us when we started the Small Wonders Page at Shopee. Now, we employ around 250 local seamstresses and 70 employees who have gone on to fulfill their dreams and even purchase their own cars and houses. Without Shopee, we wouldn’t be able to provide jobs for these Filipinos,” she said.

She says her experience as a Shopee seller, the platform’s features, as well as guidance from her dedicated relationship manager are key factors for her business success especially during mega-sale days.

“Having a dedicated relationship manager helps us create strategies to maintain product visibility, eliminate backlog, and fast-track order processing and fulfillment during mega-sales. During campaigns we also make sure to utilize features such as Chat Broadcast, ShopeeLive, and ShopeeAds in order to connect with our customers and inform them about our new products, discounts, and deals.”

Charles Barrientos of Mikana store, a recent awardee as well, also shares that alongside the hard work that comes with preparing for mega-sale days, these highly anticipated dates are integral to their business. His decision to launch Mikana, a store that specializes in jewelry, on Shopee was because he learned about how Shopee provides features and guidance to cater to its sellers’ growth. Besides these tools, he says constant adjustments and preparation are what help drive his business success.

“Preparing for peak days and seasons comes with its challenges because of the sudden increase in demand. There are times wherein we have to extend our operations and double our efforts especially since mega-sale days are a big part of our sales.”

He also highlights how Shopee’s user-centric platform helps them maintain a good relationship with their customers. “Shopee has an efficient customer service feature which allows us to address the concerns of our customers directly and improve how we serve them.”

Like Jenna and Charles, you can conveniently join Shopee as a seller and grow your business today. Learn more and Get Started on Shopee. Download the Shopee app for free via the App Store or Google Play.

  • Moms in Tech: How these Mothers at Shopee Unlocked Success in a Fast-Paced Industry

Moms in Tech: How these Mothers at Shopee Unlocked Success in a Fast-Paced Industry

With the rapid growth of e-commerce, more women are exploring the tech industry and finding success online. Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, continues to provide members of its platform with the support needed to thrive in tech. In time for Mother’s Day, three mothers share their experiences on how they ventured out of their comfort zones and into e-commerce. Karen, Primarose, and Glenda are a testament to what working mothers in tech are capable of achieving –  whether they are riders, livestream partners, or employees of Shopee.

    Karen: Homegrown Shopee Leader

Having previously worked in the operations side of the FMCG industry, Karen Perez, a wife and mother to two daughters, made the switch to join Shopee and become its first employee in the Philippines seven years ago to lead its Operations Team. She had hesitations, but she knew that being part of the tech industry would help her develop even more as a professional. “I already had one daughter and was pregnant with my youngest by the time I joined Shopee, and I had apprehensions about joining a young company. Eventually, I accepted the opportunity because I was excited to be part of the growing e-commerce sector.”

She recently took on a new role as the Head of People at Shopee Philippines. For those around her, this comes as no surprise as she has always approached leadership by building personal relationships in the workplace. She went from dealing with the backend aspects of the business to focusing her time to caring for people and their well-being. Karen shares, “I am grateful that my unique skill sets are recognized and I am given all these opportunities to grow within and lead the organization.” Despite the differences between the two fields, Karen believes that her experience both as a mother and wife helped mold her into the leader that she wanted to be. She credits the culture of Shopee for allowing her to be that. “Being both a mother and a department head has shown me what it means to be a good leader. Much like motherhood, leadership, at its very core, is caring for one’s people.”

What is most rewarding for Karen is getting the admiration of the people whose opinion matters to her the most: her children. “Recently, I asked my eldest daughter what she wants to be when she grows up and she simply said, ‘I want to be like you.’ I am grateful to be doing meaningful work, and I hope my children strive to do the same someday.”

Primarose: Rising to the challenge at Shopee Xpress

Primarose is a wife, a mother to three children, and a Shopee Xpress rider. Her unique journey with Shopee Xpress first began in June of 2021 after the pandemic forced her to close her souvenir store.

Being one of the few female riders in her line of profession, Primarose knows she has to be determined, and she has no regrets. She shared “Iba na ang panahon natin ngayon, hindi lang lalaki ang pwede magtrabaho. Nais ko ipakita sa mga ibang ina na kayang kaya rin nila makamit ang kanilang mga hangad.” (We live in a different age where women also have the opportunity to work. I want to show other mothers that they are capable of reaching their aspirations.)

She is now reaping the rewards of her efforts as she is now able to help provide for her family, and even take them out to eat in restaurants and go on outings. “Sa lahat ng nangyari mula sa pandemya, nagpapasalamat ako ng lubos na nagkaroon ako ng pagkakataon na magiging Shopee Xpress rider. Naging makahulugan ang pagiging ina at asawa ko dahil nabigay ko sa kanila ang pangangailangan nila mula sa trabaho ko bilang rider.” (Of all the things to have come out of this pandemic, I am most grateful that it gave me the opportunity to become a Shopee Xpress rider. I feel fulfilled as both a mother and wife knowing that I am able to provide for my family through my job.)

Mommy Gee: Finding balance as a working mother

Prior to becoming a Shopee livestreamer, Glenda, also known as Mommy Gee, started her journey in creating online content by posting about what means most to her: her children. She is a single mom working multiple jobs to support her three children, and struggled with something most moms would know about: time management. Besides doing online content, Mommy Gee is also a licensed real estate agent and entrepreneur as she owns a Korean food franchise. When the pandemic struck, her real estate job experienced a hit which is why she chose to become a Shopee livestreamer. She shared, “As a single mother to three children, I felt the need to take on as much as I could to make up for the many lost opportunities I faced during the onslaught of the pandemic. ”

Mommy Gee chose to persevere doing livestream. At first, she wasn’t confident doing it but as time went by, she became more confident and eventually began to enjoy it. She loves helping people find their Shopee budols, and more importantly, connecting and making friends online. “As a single mother, I feel very blessed to have a job that allows me to spend more time with my children at home while also also giving me the opportunity to connect with a supportive online community.” shared Mommy Gee.

She encourages other working mothers to venture out of their comfort zones and persevere. Mommy Gee said “Starting out as a Shopee Livestreamer did not come easy for me, but I stuck with my decision and persevered. Seeing how much I have grown and learned since then is what pushes me to continue challenging myself.”

  • Cebu Pacific Takes Active Role in Odette Disaster Relief

Cebu Pacific Takes Active Role in Odette Disaster Relief

In the wake of the destruction brought by Typhoon Odette in Visayas and Mindanao just one week before Christmas 2021, Filipinos gathered in the name of bayanihan to help the affected families and communities rise and rebuild.

Cebu Pacific (CEB), the Philippines’ leading airline, worked hand-in-hand with government agencies, non-profit organizations, and regular citizens in extending help and uplifting lives. With its large, nationwide coverage of flights and personnel who are rooted in the company value of service excellence, CEB was able to quickly mobilize relief to affected areas.

    From the air to on-the-ground

The country’s preferred cargo carrier with the widest domestic network partnered with the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) and the Office of Civil Defense to provide special humanitarian flights for 32 medical personnel from Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital and Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium, along with a cargo of assorted medicines and medical equipment from the Department of Health (DOH) to the CARAGA Region via Siargao. This was part of an urgent medical mission to Odette-impacted communities who were suffering from a stomach flu outbreak due to the lack of potable water in these areas.

PDRF President Butch Meily was thankful for the airline’s help in bringing medical aid to those communities. “Cebu Pacific’s assistance has been crucial in getting the PDRF team, healthcare professionals, medicine, and relief goods to areas where they were desperately needed. We are grateful to the men and women of the airline for their support,” he said.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) likewise tapped the logistical support of Cebu Pacific to expedite the delivery of relief items to areas affected by Typhoon Odette. Around 1,340 family food packs were transported by the airline to Caticlan, Cebu, and Palawan from December 22 to 30, 2021. The cargo also included 30,000 pieces of Disaster Assistance Family Access Card (DAFAC) forms which helped the DSWD ensure that all families hit by Typhoon Odette are given appropriate assistance through a monitoring system.

“With the extent of damage caused by Typhoon Odette in transportation, electricity and communication lines, the generosity and support of Cebu Pacific to the DSWD’s relief operations greatly helped in the expeditious delivery of the much-needed assistance to our affected kababayans,” DSWD Secretary Rolando Joselito Bautista said.

One of the challenges in the disaster-stricken areas was to prevent a surge of COVID-19 in their evacuation centers. To help monitor the number of COVID cases in Eastern Visayas, the World Health Organization (WHO) Philippines dispatched 2,000 rapid antigen test kits to the region, tapping Cebu Pacific as its logistics partner to transport the test kits to Tacloban City last January 7. Cebu Pacific airlifted additional antigen kits for WHO Philippines on the week of February 7     .

Cebu Pacific was also supportive of private initiatives such as the distribution of Waves for Water filtration systems by travel vlogger Kyle Jennerman and Northern Mindanao Mountaineering Society to the coastal barangays Bayanihan and San Antonio in the Municipality of Libjo in Dinagat islands. The airline was able to fly out the filtration buckets from Manila to provide safe drinking water for the communities. “Without the help of Cebu Pacific, we wouldn’t have been able to bring these donated water filters at a critical time when its most needed in the community. We are so thankful.” according to volunteer organizer Sam Jennings.

Animal welfare was another major concern during the recent calamity, and Cebu Pacific helped PeTA Asia care for the affected people and pets by carrying three shipments of 350kgs of animal and human food including rice, canned goods, water filters, vet meds, solar panel, tarps, and drinking water for the Bohol Animal Rescue and Kindness (BARK) Center in Bohol and the Island Rescue Organization in Cebu.

    Continuous commitment

Massive rebuilding efforts are still being conducted in many of the typhoon-affected areas. Damage to agriculture and infrastructure has been reported in several areas of Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

With the renowned resilience of the Filipino, affected communities are rising up against the challenges, and Cebu Pacific Air is committed to continuing its support for these initiatives.

“Aside from offering safe and reliable travels to our different local and international destinations, we want to continue to make life better for veryjuan, and this includes being there for our kababayans most especially in their time of need,” says Michael Ivan Shau, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Cebu Pacific.

For those interested to partner with CEB, humanitarian requests may be sent to socialresponsibility@cebupacificair.com.

  • Megan Young and Mikael Daez on the joys of me-time moments

Megan Young and Mikael Daez on the joys of me-time moments

Maintaining a healthy work-life balance has been a challenge for a lot of people. Keeping up with responsibilities can be stressful and draining so, it’s important to reward oneself with valuable “me-time” moments from time to time.

Celebrity couple Megan Young and Mikael Daez can attest to this. Since the lockdown started, they’ve been creating content for their YouTube channel and podcast #BehindRelationshipGoals. Balancing work and their personal lives was not an easy task, but they make sure they find time to enjoy things they love.

“We look forward to any chance we get to enjoy the company of one another and [our dog] Soba, even if we only get a couple of hours or minutes of free time to do so. We’re even more appreciative of these moments.” Mikael said.

“Before, we really pushed ourselves to work until madaling araw. But we realized that we need to put a limit and that we have to find time to reward ourselves also,” Megan added.

Though they’re limited to staying at home, Mikael and Megan still find ways to reward themselves through simple yet satisfying activities.

    Take a breather

Enjoy a cup of Mikael Daez’s holiday spice drink with Swiss Miss Milk Chocolate.

Being able to take a few moments to appreciate free time after accomplishing so much can feel rewarding. Find a comfortable spot and try to sit back for a few minutes to help clear the mind before jumping into the next task. Performing a simple self-care routine afterwards can be invigorating.

    Play video games

One of the things Megan and Mikael enjoy is their shared love for playing video games. Immersing oneself in a virtual world is easily rewarding after spending long hours of work.

    TV and movie marathon

Spice up your favorite oatmeal snack with Swiss Miss Hazelnut.

One of the best ways to chill after a busy day – a marathon of TV shows and movies while in pajamas and with a cozy cup of hot chocolate. Swiss Miss is one of the celebrity couple’s must-haves when they go on a binge-watching spree. “For the anime lovers out there, we’ve been watching Hunter x Hunter and Demon Slayer. And then, for video game lovers, we watched Witcher. From time to time, there’s the occasional K-Drama or Korean movie that’s nice to watch,” Mikael shared.

    Experiment in the kitchen

Rewarding oneself can be as simple as satisfying cravings, preparing a tasty treat or cooking a favorite dish. For Megan and Mikael, experimenting with Swiss Miss’ various flavors to create delicious snacks and drinks turned out to be a memorable experience. Megan’s favorite was adding Swiss Miss Chocolate Hazelnut to oatmeal. “Swiss Miss really oomph’d up the flavor and the oatmeal experience,” she said.

Meanwhile, Mikael added cinnamon, cream, and rock salt to his Swiss Miss drink. “It did add a lot of nuance to the Swiss Miss experience and I was happily surprised,” he said. “We’re not cooks or chefs, so any wins in the kitchen is something we’ll take.”

Check out the recipes they made with Swiss Miss here and enjoy a rewarding treat.

    Spend time with loved ones

Celebrity couple Megan Young and Mikael Daez enjoy celebrating their accomplishments with Swiss Miss.

Celebrating wins and accomplishments is more rewarding when shared with the family and loved ones. There’s a blissful satisfaction in spending free time and catching up with family and friends whether in person or virtually.

The new year is an ideal time to grow in one’s personal and professional lives. Megan and Mikael – as individuals and as a couple – plan on taking their content creation to another level. “Definitely 2022 is another year for learning and taking it to a different scale,” Megan said. Mikael also added, “I mean we already started the content production arm of Bonez and Fofo so we might as well go with it 100% and try everything out.”

Of course, they won’t forget about taking a break rewarding themselves for their small and big wins.

Just like the celebrity couple, one can celebrate wins with a sweet reward like Swiss Miss. This chocolate drink comes in Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Marshmallow and Hazelnut flavors.

Enjoy Swiss Miss by itself or with the delicious recipes from Swiss Miss Philippine’s Facebook page. Get Swiss Miss from the nearest supermarkets or by shopping online.
