Maintain an active lifestyle at home with these tips from vivo

There are many ways through which people are coping with feelings of anxiety, depression, boredom and other ill-effects of an extended enhanced community quarantine. One of these is stress-eating.

While understandable, such a lifestyle may not be sustainable in the long run–especially if one has not been exercising. Unfortunately, most gyms and sports facilities won’t be opening anytime soon, so there is really no better way to shed-off excess fat than by adopting exercise habits at home.

Don’t know where to start? Here are simple and easy ways to get your body moving and getting it back into tip-top shape.

    Start with simple activities

It would be unwise to instantly go through rigorous exercises and programs without priming your body to go through them. Activate and engage your body through simple activities such as cleaning the house while listening to upbeat music. You can also try meditating just to make sure that your mind is in harmony with your body.

    Download Workout apps

The vivo app store has workout apps that contain plenty of programs and exercises. Try apps that include High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) programs where you do a series of repetitions continuously with minimal rest time. While these apps promote quick workouts that last less than 10 minutes, do not be fooled–you will feel like you just ran a marathon.

Head to Facebook for live workout videos

If motivation is what gets you going when it comes to workouts, try doing it together with other online users. Facebook pages of different gyms around the metro now offer both free and paid live online workout classes like yoga and shadow boxing that are sure to shed off a few “quarantine pounds”. If you’re not to keen on working out with strangers, you can always gather your friends for a video call workout session. Just make sure you actually work out and not end up having an “e-numan”–you can always do that at a different time.

    Try Tik-Tok dance challenges

If conventional workout routines and exercises aren’t your thing, you can always try creating TikTok videos. Try engaging in a “dance workout” by trying out all the dance challenges created by users in the platform. You will actually sweat buckets trying to perfect the challenges over and over again.

These home-based exercise methods may not be the same as “maxing out” in the gym, but these are great ways to maintain an active lifestyle and fight off the urge to stress-eat during these unprecedented times.

All it takes are a few clicks. You can download the Facebook app and plenty of workout apps using the vivo app store, pre-installed in all vivo mobile devices.

  • Shopee identifies 4 of the biggest e-commerce trends in 2020

Shopee identifies 4 of the biggest e-commerce trends in 2020

Consumers shop more often on weekdays and show an increased preference for cashless payments, while brands and sellers expand their online presence

Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, identifies four major e-commerce trends in 2020. The retail landscape in the Philippines has been transformed due to increased social distancing efforts, such as the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine as the nation combats the spread of Covid-19. As a result, brands and sellers are venturing online in search of growth, while consumers turn to e-commerce to meet their shopping needs.

Ruoshan Tao, Head of Marketing at Shopee Philippines said, “The year 2020 has changed the way we live, work, and shop. Brands and sellers across the region are stepping up their digitization efforts, with e-commerce becoming a key channel for them to sustain and grow their businesses. At the same time, consumers are increasingly going online to fulfill their everyday needs, in areas ranging from groceries to home appliances. As e-commerce takes on greater importance in people’s lives, Shopee will continue to make shopping even more social, engaging, and easy for everyone.”

In the Philippines, Shopee has identified 4 key trends for e-commerce in recent months:

    1. Brands and sellers are growing their e-commerce presence

Brands and sellers are venturing online to boost their online presence while exploring new strategies to reach and engage consumers.

    • Robust growth for Filipino sellers: As people shop for their home and essential needs online, brands, and sellers in the Gaming and Pet Care categories are seeing strong growth. In addition, Brands and sellers offering pet essentials and home appliances & accessories saw 40 times and 15 times more orders respectively than the same period last year.
    • Reaching customers with live streaming: Brands and sellers are actively exploring new ways to reach consumers. Shopee has observed that the number of Shopee Live streams from brands and sellers increased by 40 times. Homegrown SMEs have successfully boosted online visibility with Shopee Live. For example, Sirods Stuffed Toys has recorded a robust number of views for its streams by showcasing popular toys and collectibles to users in real-time, enabling it to engage customers more effectively.

    2. Shoppers turn to e-commerce for everyday needs

At the same time, Filipinos are relying on e-commerce to meet their everyday needs as people live, work, and play from home.

    • Consumers search and shop online for a wider variety of needs: Shopee has observed an increase in search and shopping activity in the past 3 months, especially for health and fashion products. This reflects an increasing reliance on e-commerce, which provides Filipinos with one-stop access to essentials, health products, and more.
      • Top searched keywords: Face masks, Dresses, Power banks, Undergarments
      • Top products: Mosquito incense, Vitamins, and supplements, cell phone cases

    3. Shopping preferences evolve as consumers seek convenience on e-commerce

Shopping preferences are also changing in the Philippines as consumers look for convenience in e-commerce during this period.

    • Increased shopping activity on weekdays: Online shopping activity has peaked on Tuesdays in recent months, showcasing the preference among Filipinos to shop earlier in the week. Shopping activity is also the highest at 12PM and 1PM as Filipinos shop more often during lunchtime.
    • Preference for cashless payments: Adoption of cashless payments is growing as consumers value speed and reduce physical interactions. Shopee has observed that users are increasingly using cashless options such as ShopeePay to pay for purchases in recent months.

    4. Increased social interaction and engagement among online shoppers

E-commerce has now evolved into something more than just a way to shop – it’s also become a place where people come together to interact, read content, and connect with others. Shopee has seen greater use of its in-app engagement features in the past three months as Filipinos seek to stay connected online:

    • Shopee Live Chat: Shopee has seen an increase in social interactions on its platform. Over 1 million messages were sent daily on average as brands, sellers, and consumers interact with each other across the shopping journey.
    • In-app games: Shopee recorded 200 million plays for its in-app games over the past three months. This is driven by users logging in daily to earn rewards and try out new in-app games such as Shopee Farm and Shopee Throw.

Tao closed, “We want to make online shopping safe and convenient while staying true to our vision of delivering a social and engaging experience to our users. At the same time, we will continue to help both our sellers and buyers by providing them a seamless online shopping experience, especially during this COVID-19 crisis.

Cement manufacturer Holcim Philippines, Inc. continues to improve health and safety controls against Covid-19 at its sites to protect the well-being of people, partners, and the community as the company prepares to resume operations following the government’s easing of enhanced community quarantines.

The company closed sites and facilities in Luzon in compliance with the national government directive of an enhanced community quarantine on 16 March 2020. The company also shut down its plant in Davao City following a similar action by the local government on 2 April 2020.

“In Lugait, Misamis Oriental our plant continues to run without any Covid-related incident further proving that our strength in Health and Safety enables us to properly manage these risks. Lugait also provides a model on how we can protect the well-being of people when we restart operations of our other sites,” Stull added.

The company’s skeleton teams in all its sites have installed markers to guide people in staying two meters apart as prescribed for social distancing and built hand washing stations. Holcim Philippines also continues to share information to employees and partners on Covid-19 to help them be more aware and mindful on protecting themselves against the disease.

The company has installed additional hand washing stations in all its sites to further strengthen protections of workers against Covid-19.

Stull said the company welcomes the government’s measured efforts to ensure business activities can resume safely. He added that Holcim Philippines will continue to strictly adhere to the guidance of health authorities on this matter and be ready to share such best practices to partners, industry groups, and government agencies to help in the safe resumption of building activity in the country.

Jollibee, McCann World Group Philippines pay tribute to mothers through our COVID-19 heroes

A mother’s nurturing love indeed leaves a lasting impact on her children’s lives. From teaching them their first lessons at home, instilling values that help shape their attitude and personality, to providing unending support and encouragement, the heroes of today have learned how to draw their character from the example of their mothers.

This May, Jollibee and creative agency, McCann World Group Philippines, pay tribute to strong and brave mothers as they release a touching Kwentong Jollibee Mother’s Day special that shows how a mother’s earnest parenting can determine how far a child can go in life.

Inspired by true stories, the special Mother’s Day tribute presents the realities in the lives of front-liners who are helping fight the COVID-19 pandemic. It follows the stories of front-liners and volunteers who, even in these trying times, continue to fulfill a higher purpose by carrying out their duties to those they serve. Despite their own circumstances, they set their heart on bringing joy to people, with a love that’s deeply anchored on the nurturing care they received from their moms.

“Our front-liners go out every day, braving different challenges that help flatten the curve and provide aid to those in need. As a brand that is one with the nation in recognizing our front-liners, our Mother’s Day tribute pays homage to their dear mothers — the first person who molded them to be the kind-hearted and noble people they are today, said Francis Flores, Jollibee Global Brand CMO, JFC Philippines Country Business Group and concurrent PH Marketing Head.

Through the guidance and example that mothers have set, many COVID-19 front-liners are able to fulfill their duties not only in their respective families, but also in the communities they lend a hand to. The material brings to light a powerful truth about how a mother’s love can enkindle a hero out in all of us.

  • NASA, partners launch virtual hackathon to develop COVID-19 solutions

NASA, partners launch virtual hackathon to develop COVID-19 solutions

The U.S. space agency National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA), European Space Agency (ESA), and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) are inviting coders, entrepreneurs, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, builders, artists, and technologists to participate in a virtual hackathon May 30-31 dedicated to putting open data to work in developing solutions to issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the global Space Apps COVID-19 Challenge, participants from around the world will create virtual teams that – during a 48-hour period – will use Earth observation data to propose solutions to COVID-19-related challenges ranging from studying the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 and its spread to the impact the disease is having on the Earth system. Registration for this challenge opens in mid-May.

“There’s a tremendous need for our collective ingenuity right now,” said Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate. “I can’t imagine a more worthy focus than COVID-19 on which to direct the energy and enthusiasm from around the world with the Space Apps Challenge that always generates such amazing solutions.”

The unique capabilities of NASA and its partner space agencies in the areas of science and technology enable them to lend a hand during this global crisis. Since the start of the global outbreak, Earth science specialists from each agency have been exploring ways to use unique Earth observation data to aid understanding of the interplay of the Earth system – on global to local scales – with aspects of the COVID-19 outbreak, including, potentially, our ability to combat it. The hackathon will also examine the human and economic response to the virus.

ESA will contribute data from the Sentinel missions (Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2 and Sentinel-5P) in the context of the European Copernicus program, led by the European Commission, along with data from Third Party contributing Missions, with a focus on assessing the impact on climate change and greenhouse gases, as well as impacts on the economic sector. ESA also is contributing Earth observation experts for the selection of the competition winners and the artificial-intelligence-powered EuroDataCube.

“EuroDatacube will enable the best ideas to be scaled up to a global level,” said Josef Aschbacher, director of Earth Observation Programmes at ESA. “The pandemic crisis has a worldwide impact, therefore international cooperation and sharing of data and expertise with partners like NASA and JAXA seems the most suitable approach.”

JAXA is making Earth observing data available from its satellite missions, including ALOS-2, GOSAT, GOSAT-2, GCOM-C, GCOM-W, and GPM/DPR.

“JAXA welcomes the opportunity to be part of the hackathon,” said JAXA Vice President Terada Koji. “I believe the trilateral cooperation among ESA, NASA and JAXA is important to demonstrate how Earth observation can support global efforts in combating this unprecedented challenge.”

Space Apps is an international hackathon that takes place in cities around the world. Since 2012, teams have engaged with NASA’s free and open data to address real-world problems on Earth and in space. The COVID-19 Challenge will be the program’s first global virtual hackathon. Space Apps 2019 included more than 29,000 participants at 225 events in 71 countries, developing more than 2,000 hackathon solutions over the course of one weekend.

Many Filipinos participated in this annual hackathon since 2016. Recently, a dengue mapping forecasting system was developed by data scientists from CirroLytix using satellite and climate data with the goal of addressing the sustainable development goals of the United Nations. This web application, called Project AEDES won globally for the best use of data. “Earth observation data has the potential to be used in fighting epidemics and outbreaks threatening humanity nowadays, as well as to analyze its socio-economic impact,” according to software developer Michael Lance M. Domagas, who led the Philippine hackathon in collaboration with De La Salle University, PLDT, Department of Science and Technology, United Nations Development Programme, and the U.S. embassy. The very first Philippine winner used citizen science and environmental data to develop a smartphone application informing fishermen the right time to catch fish. ISDApp is currently being incubated at Animo Labs.

Space Apps is a NASA-led initiative organized globally in collaboration with Booz Allen Hamilton, Mindgrub and SecondMuse. The next annual Space Apps Challenge is scheduled for October 2-4.

    Registration opens May 12. https://covid19.spaceappschallenge.org/

Robinsons Bank assures service amid crisis, enhances digital services for better banking experience

While the entirety of the Philippines is under a State of Calamity due to the COVID-19 virus, Robinsons Bank (RBank) has taken immediate adequate steps to ensure that it maintains its excellent banking services for its various customers and stakeholders amid the COVID-19 crisis.

RBankers: A resilient workforce offering their dedication to serve amidst crisis

As the first two (2) weeks of the quarantine’s implementation became a handful for the majority of businesses, RBank strived to deliver the same quality of services that it has provided since.

In the beginning of the ECQ, 62% of RBank’s branch network nationwide continued to operate to ensure that there is an easily accessible bank that can cater to clients’ needs. Furthermore, 92% of RBank ATMs replenished consistently to serve various communities across the nation. Customers can also find RBank’s “24R Hub” – the bank’s 24/7 digital bank hubs in strategic locations, which will allow them to withdraw and deposit cash, and pay bills via RBank Digital (online banking).

RBank’s Cash Management Services remain in the service of its corporate clients.  The Bank’s corporate online banking platform, e2Banking, continues to service corporate and SME customers enabling clients to have online access to their balances and transaction history. They can remotely facilitate their fund transfer requests not only to Robinsons Bank accounts but to other accounts with any local bank.

In support of the “Bayanihan To Heal as One Act,” RBank has expanded coverage of the grace period for all corporate loans, consumer loans, and credit card payments with due dates from March 16 to May 15, 2020.  The loan grace period has nationwide coverage and provides various concessions to ease clients with the burden brought about by the crisis, such as waived penalties and fees on returned checks and the suspension of auto-debit and PDC payments during the ECQ period.

Moreover, the Bank has continued to lower its transaction fees from Php 25.00 to now only one-peso, providing customers with a “Piso-fee promo” for online fund transfers of PesoNet and InstaPay.

RBank is also enhancing RBank Digital, its online banking platform to provide users with a mobile banking experience that’s like no other.

“While we urge the country to limit face-to-face interactions to mitigate the spread of the virus, RBank has made it easier for you to enjoy your banking experience in the safety of your homes.  More than ever, we strive to enhance your personal online banking experience with our RBank Digital, our online banking platform to offer you accessible and convenient banking that’s just at your fingertips.” Robinsons Bank’s statement reads

Expanding digital efforts to cater to your needs

Last April 23, RBank has introduced RBank Sign Up – the mobile app that allows you to open a new bank account online.  The new app proves that banking is all about ease and convenience. It only requires one government ID, and it uses facial recognition and real time ID detection for a fast, easy, and secure experience.

With RBank Sign Up, clients can apply for an RBank account wherever and whenever – free of charge! Bank details can be received within minutes of signing up, and yes— there’s no need to go to the branch.

Clients can also expect that there’s more to come with the new feature in RBank Digital. They’ll be able to view their credit card transactions in real-time, transfer funds using a QR code making it the “QuickR way” to send money, and make payments to participating online stores.

“We will navigate through these uncertain times and find new ways to deepen our relationship with you by providing services that will help strengthen your financial position in the coming months.  In all our endeavors, we are determined to put you, our valued customer, at the heart of our service.” Robinsons Bank assures that even with the new norm that the COVID-19 situation created, it will remain committed to providing unwavering service.

Robinsons Bank is the financial services arm of the JG Summit Group of Companies, one of the largest conglomerates in the Philippines. It currently ranks 18th among universal and commercial banks in the country in terms of assets amounting to Php 110.555 Bn as of September 2019.

For inquiries and concerns, you may reach Robinsons Bank through its Customer Care Center at (02) 8637-CARE (2273) or domestic toll-free 1-800-10-637-CARE (2273); or visit its website at www.robinsonsbank.com.ph.
