  • Jollibee celebrates Filipino pride and joy with ‘Pusong Pinoy’ featuring Sarah G and Billy Crawford

Jollibee celebrates Filipino pride and joy with ‘Pusong Pinoy’ featuring Sarah G and Billy Crawford

Every June 12, the country beams with pride as it celebrates its independence and freedom from colonial rule. But in today’s context, what does it mean to be Pinoy and Proud and how can this be embraced by every Filipino?

As the country commemorates its 123rd Independence Day, Jollibee once again ignites the hearts of Filipinos all over the world with its new song titled “Pusong Pinoy.” Performed by world-class celebrities Sarah Geronimo and Billy Crawford, “Pusong Pinoy” celebrates an ever-present Pinoy Pride rooted in the Filipinos’ innate ability to give joy and hope, as well as rise above challenges by embodying the spirit of Bayanihan and helping one another.

“We wanted to highlight an admirable trait of Filipinos – while we are known as being resilient and being joyful people, what drives this is our malasakit sa kapwa which enables us to face any challenges that come our way. The Bayanihan spirit has always been a part of our culture, and we see now that it is still very much alive in modern times. So, we should all be proud of our Pusong Pinoy”, says Francis Flores, JFC’s Philippines Country Marketing head and Jollibee PH Marketing head.

“Para sa akin, ang ‘Pusong Pinoy’ ay laging handang tumulong, mapa-Pilipino man o ibang lahi,” shared Jollibee ambassador Sarah Geronimo. “Kahit saan ka magpunta, talagang ang puso ng Pinoy iba magbigay ng pagmamahal at pag-aalaga.” Sarah added.

In the video, Sarah and Billy sing about how Filipinos spread pride and joy, with scenes depicting acts of selflessness and compassion for others specially during challenging times. These examples show how Filipinos overcome hard times by uplifting each other with a kind of joy that comes from within. And how, in this celebration of Independence, they give meaning to their freedom by sharing it with those around them.

When asked what makes her proud of her Filipino heritage, Sarah said, “Yung mga katangian ng Pilipino ang talagang hinahangaan ko sa bawat isa sa atin. Lalo ngayon, mas nakikita natin ang pagiging matulungin, matatag, at mapagmahal ng bawat isa. Sa maliit o sa malaking paraan man, lahat ng Pilipino kumikilos para sa kapakanan ng kanyang kapwa.”

Billy Crawford also shared how Filipinos can take advantage of their freedom to bring joy to one other. To him, holding on to the hope that better days are about to come is one way to remain inspired as Filipinos move forward. “This is the best time for us to remain humble and take everything in life as it goes. With a brand like Jollibee giving us joy through the song ‘Pusong Pinoy’, they are able to make us feel the kind of love na magaan at mapagpalaya, ‘yan ang hindi napapantayan ng kahit anong bagay.”

With Jollibee capturing what it’s like to have ‘Pusong Pinoy,’ Filipinos around the globe can definitely be proud of the joyful spirit that allows them to move forward, no matter the obstacles.

Sing Jollibee’s Independence Day 2021 anthem with Sarah Geronimo and Billy Crawford by watching the “Pusong Pinoy” music video on Facebook and YouTube.

  • Shopee and the Department of Health Team Up to Encourage Filipinos to Get Vaccinated

Shopee and the Department of Health Team Up to Encourage Filipinos to Get Vaccinated

Through this partnership, Shopee and the Department of Health aim to raise awareness on the importance of COVID-19 vaccination through education

Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, partners with the Department of Health (DOH) to promote education about COVID-19 vaccines through in-app and social media initiatives. As the Philippines aims to vaccinate 70% of its population within three to five years, this partnership between Shopee and DOH augments the concerted effort of the private sector and local government units to encourage Filipinos to get vaccinated and protect themselves and their loved ones against COVID-19.

While the local government rolls out COVID-19 vaccination programs, the vaccine hesitancy rate among Filipinos continues to increase, going from 47% in January 2021 to 61% by the end of the first quarter. They remain resistant to the vaccine due to three key  reasons: concerns about potential side effects, uncertainty about efficacy, and skepticism.

Martin Yu, Director at Shopee Philippines, said, “Shopee is honored to partner with the Department of Health to educate Filipinos on the importance and benefits of vaccination. Through our collaboration with DOH, we can provide the community with accurate and science-backed vaccine information. With proper education, we aim to raise the public’s awareness and hopefully encourage more people to get vaccinated.”

Beverly C. Ho, MD, MPH, Director IV, at Health Promotion Bureau DOH, said, “This partnership symbolizes what we, in the Health Promotion Bureau, want to do—meet people where they are and make living healthy easy. That’s why we are thankful to use Shopee’s platform, one that effectively reaches and engages millions of Filipinos, to make RESBAKUNA reach a wider audience. The immense potential this partnership holds, not only in increasing vaccine confidence but in improving overall health literacy among Filipinos, truly excites us.”

Starting this month until August, users can learn more about vaccines’ safety and effectiveness from DOH and World Health Organization representatives. On June 23, 9:00 PM, users can watch a discussion on “Fake vs Fact on COVID-19 Vaccine Safety and Efficacy” on Shopee Live. Shopee will post helpful information about the vaccines on its official social media pages. A separate microsite will also be available on the Shopee app.

  • Unilever and Shopee partner for a Cleaner Future with “Linis Pilipinas” campaign

Unilever and Shopee partner for a Cleaner Future with “Linis Pilipinas” campaign

Working toward a cleaner future does not happen overnight. It is a joint, continuous effort, involving partners and communities, meaningful initiatives, and everyone’s individual steps. Added up, all these actions create an enormous impact. Unilever, the makers of well-loved brands like Breeze, Domex, and Surf, has partnered with Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in the region, and the Haribon Foundation to drive actions towards a better, cleaner future through Unilever’s “Linis Pilipinas” campaign, where millions of Filipinos across the nation can take action for a clean future.

Armed with the purpose of providing convenient access to sustainable Home Care products, Unilever kicks off Linis Pilipinas, Unilever Home Care’s Super Brand Day Sale this June 10-12 on Shopee. The Linis Pilipinas initiative brings to life Unilever’s global Clean Future strategy announced in 2020, with a bold goal of transforming Unilever’s Home Care brands and products to become better for people and the planet, all powered by purpose and innovation.

    Redefining Sustainable Packaging

During the Super Brand Day Sale, shoppers can get exclusive vouchers of up to 15% off and free shipping on their favorite Unilever products, making sustainable options more accessible and affordable. At the same time, they can also enjoy the satisfaction of knowing they are supporting advocacies and initiatives geared toward creating a lower environmental footprint. Surf, Breeze, and Domex bottles are now made with 100% recycled plastic, taking away as much as 9 million plastic bottles1 from landfills or waterways. Steps toward improving and optimizing packaging have also been taken to prevent the use of excessive plastic, with education on collecting plastics and flexible packaging simultaneously being rolled out through over 400 barangay partnerships and social media content. This is not just an opportunity for Unilever, but for Filipinos, to make that shift in behavior and to take that step in a better direction.

    Committing to a Sustainable Future

The efforts for achieving sustainability and giving back to the community continue, even after every purchase. A portion of the proceeds during the Super Brand Day Sale will go to Haribon Foundation, furthering Unilever’s starting point of planting 1,250 trees. With this, Linis Pilipinas shoppers can help reduce carbon, promote cleaner living, and help regenerate natural habitats. The Linis Pilipinas microsite on Shopee will feature a real-time live counter showing just how many trees will be planted through each and every shopper’s act of purchase, marking their contribution to reforestation.

“Finding partners that advocate for genuine and science-based forest restoration has been a challenge in this pandemic. With our partnership with Unilever, we are able to continue our efforts in restoring our country’s depleting forests as we both believe that the communities themselves are the best stewards of our forests. Together, we hope to empower and transform communities, who through the forest restoration campaign, will be provided livelihood and capacity development on basic ecology, rainforestation technology, and forest monitoring,” shares Maria Belinda de la Paz, COO, Haribon Foundation.

    Forming Sustainable Habits

Unilever understands that achieving sustainability and a cleaner future isn’t just one act done today, then easily forgotten tomorrow. “Linis Pilipinas” aims to empower Filipinos to form a habit of caring for the environment and the future. Educational efforts include a micro-site on Shopee dedicated to spreading awareness, trivia, and information on environmentally friendly practices. Purchasing Unilever products during the Super Brand Day Sale can also come with free eco-friendly items that help shoppers be a step closer to achieving these goals, such as upcycled sponges, tote bags, bamboo toothbrushes, and silicone bowls. These reusable,

rewashable, and upcycled items, combined with the digital educational efforts, will go a long way toward forming greener and cleaner daily habits at home.

“We know that everyone working together towards a clean future is the way forward in addressing the environmental and social challenges facing us right now. As Filipinos, we can start with our home, our communities, and more importantly with our individual actions and choices. Unilever acts as a partner in connecting groups like Shopee and Haribon Foundation to the people that share vision of a better, cleaner, greener world. With Linis Pilipinas, we continue the mission of making sustainable living commonplace for all Filipinos,” shares Vanessa Ong, Unilever Philippines Marketing Director for Homecare.

“Shopee is pleased to collaborate with a purpose-driven company such as Unilever, to help achieve their sustainability goals and give back to our communities. With a deep understanding of consumer behaviour and trends in each market, Shopee will work with Unilever to develop localised initiatives that will help to raise awareness and encourage our shoppers to do their part in creating a cleaner and greener community for everyone. We look forward to driving more of such meaningful initiatives with our brand partners in the future,” said Martin Yu, Director at Shopee Philippines.
