REX Champions a More Human Future at AECON 2025: Special Edition on Education 5.0

REX Education Champions a more human future at AECON 2025.

In a world where technology continuously influences how people live, learn, and connect, one question remains urgent: how do we keep education human?

Rex Education placed that question at the heart of this year’s Annual Educators’ Congress (AECON 2025): Special Edition on Education 5.0, held on October 23 and 24, 2025 at the Gallio Events Hall in Parañaque City. With the theme “Agentive, Ethical, Connected, Open, and Nurturing,” the congress gathered school leaders, teachers, and education advocates from across the country for 2 days of reflective conversations and practical exchanges focused on putting people at the center of learning.

    Reclaiming the Heart of Education

While Education 4.0 was driven by innovation and digital transformation, Education 5.0 calls for balance. It seeks to place humanity back at the core of learning, embracing technology with care, empathy, and purpose.

In his opening remarks, Rex Education CEO Don Timothy Buhain shared a heartfelt reflection on AECON’s significance and the deeper meaning of Education 5.0, emphasizing that “education has always been, and will always be, about people.” He explained that Education 5.0 is to make sure that as we move forward, we never forget the human being at the center of it all. “Technology will always be a means and a tool, but people will always be the purpose,” he emphasized.

What Education 5.0 means for REX

This year’s theme—Agentive, Ethical, Connected, Open, and Nurturing—defines REX’s vision for Education 5.0. Each word carries a practical and moral commitment.

Being Agentive is about being self-directed and purposeful; also being involved and capable of taking action. Meanwhile, being Ethical concerns choices guided by our values, having integrity, compassion, and moral discernment. Being Connected points to the relationships that make learning possible—with schools, families, and communities. Moreover, being Open stands for inclusivity, accessibility, and transparency. Nurturing brings all these elements together. It calls for learning environments that support the whole person—intellect, emotion, and spirit—so learners can grow with confidence and succeed in life.

    Highlights of AECON 2025

The first day of AECON featured an interactive Pre-Conference Session led by Dr. Edizon A. Fermin, Vice President for Academic Affairs at the National Teachers College. Through hands-on activities and reflective exercises, participants explored three key tenets: Institutionalizing Less is More, Opening Pathways and Doorways, and Investing in Immersion, gaining practical tools to help build a stronger, more future-ready Senior High School program.

The main conference on October 24 opened with the Learner Panel Spotlight, “Kami Naman Talaga Sana,” and the keynote address, “Reclaiming Humanity in Education 5.0,” by Rev. Fr. Jessel “JBoy” M. Gonzales, SJ of Ateneo de Davao University.

Two pannel discussions followed. The first panel, “Beyond Lifelong Learning: Content, Methodology, & Assessment that Matter,” featured esteemed education leaders Dr. Marlene Ferido, Dr. Violeta Valladolid, and Dr. Brando “ER” C. Palomar, moderated by Ms. Rita Atienza of the Ateneo de Manila University.

The second panel, “Of Numbers and Narratives: Quality Schools that Promote IDEAS (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access, Sustainability) In Focus,” featured Dr. Malcolm S. Garma and Ms. Maria Louella M. Tampinco. The session was moderated by Mr. Narcy Ador Dionisio, Executive Director of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines.

The day’s sessions concluded with a synthesis led by Dr. Edizon A. Fermin, bringing together key insights and reflections from the discussions.

A Shared Hope for the Future

Across two inspiring days, AECON 2025 became a space where educators rediscovered the heart of their work. Through

meaningful discussions and heartfelt exchanges, participants were reminded that the future of learning begins not with technology, but with people—those who teach, those who learn, and those who dare to make education better for all.

As the conference came to a close, Rex Education reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing every Filipino learner and supporting teachers and school leaders through relevant, future-ready, and deeply human learning solutions.

Because in the end, Education 5.0 is not only about adapting to the future—it’s about creating one led by heart, humanity, and purpose.

  • Capacitating Educators for the Revised K–10 Curriculum: The 2025 COCOPEA–REX Regional Run

Capacitating Educators for the Revised K–10 Curriculum: The 2025 COCOPEA–REX Regional Run

From classrooms to communities, across institutions and islands—the COCOPEA–REX regional run gathers stakeholders and educators anew to lead, learn, and shape a better future for the Filipino learners.

As a new school year begins, educators are presented with an important opportunity to improve their teaching practices, serve their students more effectively, and ultimately, contribute to elevating the quality of education in our country. This year, with the Revised K–10 Curriculum taking root in our classrooms, that opportunity has never felt more urgent and meaningful.

This is the spirit behind the 2025 COCOPEA–REX regional run.

Organized by the Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations (COCOPEA), the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP), and Rex Education, in partnership with the Department of Education, this initiative aims to equip educators with the tools and knowledge needed to effectively implement the Revised K–10 Curriculum, particularly for Grades 2, 3, 5, and 8.

A Transformative 2-Day Learning Journey Across the Archipelago

This year’s regional run, themed “Capacitating the Private Education Sector for the Effective Implementation of the Revised K–10 Curriculum,” aims to ensure that every Filipino learner has access to quality, relevant, and responsive education. The run began in Davao City on February 27–28, hosted by the University of the Immaculate Conception, Bajada Campus, welcoming educators from Regions 11, 12, SOCCSKSARGEN, and parts of BARMM. From there, the initiative traveled across the country through five more major legs: Baguio City – St. Louis University for Regions I, II, CAR, and parts of Region III, Cebu City – Cebu Institute of Technology for Regions VII, VIII, and parts of Region IX, Iloilo City – Angelicum College for Region VI, Cagayan de Oro – Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan for Region X, parts of BARMM and Region IX and Muntinlupa City – San Beda College Alabang for Regions NCR, IV-A, and IV-B

Over the 2-day program, participants were provided with the tools and platform to unpack the revised curriculum—not just in theory, but in practical, tangible ways. The first day opened with a plenary session that set the tone for the training—bringing together educators, administrators, and stakeholders to align on the goals and significance of the Revised K–10 Curriculum.

Following this, the second plenary session titled “General Updates on the Revised K–10 Curriculum” provided participants with an overview of the recent changes and developments, focusing on curriculum content and structural updates for the priority grade levels.

From there, participants moved into concurrent breakout sessions, grouped per learning area, for a curriculum walkthrough, where they engaged in two core activities:

    ● An In-depth Exploration of Learning Standards for Grades 2, 3, 5and 8, clarifying what students are expected to know and do at each grade level

    ● Curriculum Unpacking of Learning Competencies for Grades 2, 3, 5and 8, which involved breaking down each competency into practical, actionable teaching objectives

As the run transitioned into the second day, the focus shifted from understanding the curriculum to implementing it effectively in the classroom. It began with the third plenary session, titled “Evidence-Based Intervention: Focus on Pedagogical Practices and the Importance of Assessment,” highlighting how research-based teaching methods and meaningful assessments can drive better student learning outcomes.

School leaders, stakeholders, and educators nationwide take part in the 2025 COCOPEA-REX Regional Run—deepening their understanding and strengthening their readiness for the effective implementation of the Revised K–10 Curriculum, particularly for Grades 2, 3, 5, and 8.

This was followed by morning breakout sessions, again organized per learning area, that explored the Pedagogical Practices that Integrate and Develop Literacy and 21st-Century Skills through theoretical discussions and strategy-sharing. Educators shared strategies and discussed how to incorporate these essential skills into their teaching methods.

In the afternoon, educators participated in a series of hands-on workshops, still within their respective learning areas. These included:

    ● A workshop on pedagogical practices to further strengthen instruction that fosters literacy and 21st-century competencies

    ● A theoretical discussion and a workshop on effective assessment and feedback strategies, guiding educators in using assessment not only for grading but also for supporting student growth and reflective teaching.

Anchored in Purpose, Rooted in Legacy

This year’s run is especially meaningful as it coincides with REX’s 75th anniversary—a milestone that honors decades of commitment to supporting Filipino learners, educators, and institutions.

For 75 years, REX has stood not only as a learning solutions provider, but as a katuwang sa buhay—a partner for life, in learning, growth, and transformation. The regional run serves as a continuation of this legacy, reaching out to private schools, listening to their needs, and assisting them in navigating the evolving educational landscape through collaboration and shared learning.

    Moving Forward, Together

With COCOPEA, CEAP, REX, DepEd, and countless Edukampyons at the forefront, this movement proves that progress is possible when we lead with collaboration, compassion, and courage. Even in the face of shifting systems and emerging challenges, we can always rise—grounded in legacy, driven by purpose—Para sa bata. Para sa mamamayan. Para sa bayan.

In keeping with the festive and celebratory mood, REX offered exclusive deals and big discounts and joined in the fun with exciting games and prizes.

  • Finding A Common Ground: A Holistic Approach to Education for the 21st Century

Finding A Common Ground: A Holistic Approach to Education for the 21st Century

What do we really talk about when we talk about the future of learning? We talk about today, what is happening now, and how our decisions today will affect the next generations of young learners.

There is no discussion of how the field of education has been undergoing a radical transformation without first acknowledging that the 4th Industrial Revolution is here, and that we have to face its challenges together. Its effects have shaped and defined the practices and theories that we share and develop as stakeholders of education to help raise the Whole Child: we acknowledge the importance of a holistic perspective when it comes to health, we make sure that our schools are safe and open learning environments, we rethink the ways with which we engage the new generation of learners, we strive to create a holistic learning community, and we do our best to prepare young learners for the challenges that our world faces today.

Holistic education is a way for teachers, parents, and the communities supporting young learners to help raise them by nurturing their innate gifts and talents in a balanced and conscious manner that lets them grow as responsible individuals, whole persons who understand their role in helping our nation face the challenges of the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Today, there are problems and challenges that we face which didn’t exist before: technological advances bring forth new ways of doing things, but they also bring a slew of concerns over new forms of harassment and harmful effects from too much exposure. With this in mind, help emphasize the importance of physical and mental health in 21st century education: that is to say, we connect a young learner’s sound mind with a healthy body, to help them grow and adapt with how the world has changed, fostering positive relationships in the learning community and making sure that they are in safe, secure, caring and loving environments.

Yes, we have acknowledged time and again that the world is changing, and with it, the young learners of today are, too. Their set of basic needs now includes instant and reliable access to the internet, dependable devices that sustain their digitally immersed lives. With this reliance came a shift in certain aspects of the path to holistic learning which needed adjustments and new forms of intervention that would remain relevant in today’s dynamic, collaborative, and fast-paced learning environments. This meant engaging the not just the new generation of learners by motivating and stimulating their curiosities outside of what they’re accustomed to, but also connecting with and engaging learning professionals who support the learners with a holistic approach to education.

We do this by complementing what we already know with what we can apply through patient and persistent practice: helping and supporting everyone in the process of learning from teaching professionals to students and the community around them to become equipped for the 21st century. By immersing and engaging professionals in the education sector with results-oriented and research-based learning programs, we help them understand the relevance of their work towards sustaining the Whole Child initiative.

Today’s rapidly changing world demands us to change the way we think and do things, and holistic education through the Whole Child initiative is the first step to ensuring that today’s new generation of young learners are prepared to take on their role as builders and makers of the future. With a challenging curriculum and an involved learning community behind them, we hope to help advance not just their academic excellence, but more so their personal growth that would, in turn, shape their lifelong success and development as responsible individuals and citizens of our nation.

At REX, we strive to bring quality learning solutions that step up to the challenges and demands of education in the 21st century. We help teachers, schools, parents, and learning communities prepare and nurture the young Filipino learner for a better future: one that is built on values of human connection and social justice, one that pushes forward progressively with critical thinking grounded with careful reflection.

We believe that preparing the young Filipino learner means finding a common ground, a common space to share and grow together. With the Whole Child initiative, we hope to bring a sustainable and holistic approach towards education in the 21st century.

There are many ways to think about the future, but there is only one place to prepare for it: today. Learn more about holistic approach to education for the 21st century here: https://www.rexpublishing.com.ph/whole-child-initiative/
