“Sarimanok” is a dance of culture and myth. “Sarimanok” is a bird in Filipino Mindanao mythology. The magical bird with its majestic colors is the center of a love story between a mortal and a moon goddess.
This mythical creature, renowned for its vibrant feathers and captivating presence, takes center stage in a ballet that transcends the boundaries of time and culture. The ballet will be choreographed by the same creative team of “Ibalon”. Artistic Director Ronilo Jaynario will be choreographing the ballet with the music of Paulo Zarate. It is slated to premiere in early July.
“Music in Motion”, PBT’s second offering will be a mixed bill program of neoclassical works by artistic director Ronilo Jaynario with the music of maestro Raul Sunico. It will be a blend of familiar Filipino music brought to life through Philippine Ballet Theatre’s exquisite dancing. A flurry of emotions and diverse movement all packed in one show. In a dinner and dance format, this season offering is set to be performed sometime in September.
PBT will end their season with their crowd pleaser. “Nutcracker” is a tradition that is hard to resist. It not only serves as a ballet that ushers in the holiday spirit, it also serves as PBT’s advocacy project. With a cast of 100 dancers, it is able to educate young dancers from different schools regarding the remarkable discipline of ballet.

Central bank digital currencies (CBDC) are emerging worldwide, bringing new capabilities and opportunities to financial systems. Although central banks are the driving force behind CBDCs, the development of a coherent ecosystem in cooperation with private stakeholders is also essential for success. A report, published by the SecurityTech company Giesecke+Devrient (G+D) and the independent think tank Official Monetary Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF), sheds important new light on how to create a thriving CBDC ecosystem.
For many central banks, the introduction of a digital form of cash is not a question of if, but when and, more importantly, how. CBDCs cannnot exist and evolve in isolation. It will require, among other things, interoperable systems that enable efficient and fair transactions, along with a regulatory framework supporting global interoperability principles. A wide range of participants will be involved in the creation and operation of CBDCs, with an even wider range of beneficiaries. One key motivation for central banks to collaborate within an ecosystem – or network of organisations – is to foster innovation. CBDCs, beyond serving as a complementary public means of payment to cash, hold the potential to become a platform for innovation and the cornerstone of an entire digital economy.
The new report, ‘Unlocking the potential of a CBDC ecosystem’, published by OMFIF in partnership with G+D, looks into ecosystem participants and its potential opportunities. It also explores the challenges faced by central banks in realising the CBDC ecosystem, as well as its value to private sector stakeholders and individuals. This report aims to delve into the CBDC ecosystem, highlighting the organisations involved, the benefits such a network could bring, and the practical challenges that must be addressed to bring about these advantages.
Before exploring the potential innovations of a central bank digital currency, it is important to consider the participants in its primary functions, such as its issuance, operation and regulation. The report interviewed ten key organisations that would make up the CBDC ecosystem, including four central banks, two technology providers, two merchants, one commercial bank and one payment service provider.
As the CBDC ecosystem evolves, important strategic decisions must be made to ensure it delivers on its promised benefits. The report by OMFIF and G+D serves as a guide to navigate the factors influencing the decisions that central banks are grappling with.
Key findings:
· Central banks will operate the core system while private sector intermediaries provide new services to facilitate payments and conduct compliance.
· Industrial and real economy players along with individual end users and merchants stand to benefit significantly from the new ecosystem.
· CBDCs can deliver programmable payments, which should unlock valuable benefits for businesses, citizens and governments.

But it is in softball and tennis that JHL has made the most impact on, until now. They are behind the very successful Philippine softball and tennis programs in the country, focusing both on national team support and grassroots development.
In tennis, Jean Henri Lhuillier was also instrumental in bringing top tennis superstars such as Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Andy Murray, among others to the country in 2014 to 2015 as co-owner and team manager of the Manila/Philippine Mavericks. [KJ8]
Cebuana Lhuillier and Jean Henri Lhuillier have been supporting the country’s top players for several years such as Cecil Mamiit, Treat Huey, Eric Taimo, Ruben Gonzales, Katharina Lehnert, and Francis Casey Alcantara among others. They have also organized close to 2000 age group tournaments all over the country for the past two decades. Until now, they are continuing this with Jean Henri as the president of the Unified Tennis Philippines (UTP).
With Jean Henri as the long-time president of the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL), Cebuana Lhuillier and Jean Henri have been at the forefront of ensuring success in international softball competitions of both RP Blu Girls and RP Blu Boys. Over the past decade, both teams have garnered more than ten gold medals in sea games and several podium finishes in the Asian softball competitions. Most recently, they enjoyed their best year in 2023 with four teams qualifying and competing in the world cup. Both the Blu Girls and the Blu Boys had the highest world ranking among Philippine sports teams by ranking 14th in the overall standing of World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).
