Sterling Bank of Asia supports San Juan’s BJMP Livelihood Program

Sterling Bank of Asia (SBA) has selected San Juan City’s Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)
as one of this year’s beneficiaries of their annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, the Kind
    Heart Gives Campaign.

Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) of San Juan City’s BJMP showcased their craftsmanship in their parolmaking
project, which also serves as an opportunity for them to support themselves and their families
financially. The “parol,” which is one of the most iconic symbols of Filipino Christmas, is a staple
    decoration in most houses.

“The parol is a great expression of the Filipinos’ faith and hope,” said Cecilio San Pedro, SBA’s President
and CEO. “We’d like to take this opportunity to extend our support to the PDL’s of San Juan City as we
move towards a brighter Christmas celebration in these challenging times,” San Pedro added.
During the announcement of the activity, Sterling Bank of Asia employees also ordered their own parols
to bring home and hang in their homes.

“It is inspiring to see how our fellow employees happily bought their own parols as a way of helping
these persons deprived of liberty,” said Dulce Edillor, SBA’s Human Resources Group Head. “From a
company-led initiative, our fellow employees voluntarily involved themselves in the project,” exclaimed
    Edillor.

    Investing in Gold Made Easy

Cebuana Lhuillier Jewelry and its premium line together with Just Jewels offer discounted jewelry for nationwide Gold Rush Sale

Gold enthusiasts and budding collectors will get the chance to purchase jewelry items at more affordable prices this November 15 to 20 as Cebuana Lhuillier, together with Cebuana Lhuillier Jewelry Premium, and Just Jewels, stages this year’s Gold Rush Sale.

Get five percent off on all items from Cebuana Lhuillier branches and up to 30% off on its premium line and Just Jewels, as well as on eCommerce platforms like Lazada, Zalora, and Shoppee. The sale includes jewelries offered in all of Cebuana Lhuillier’s 2,600 branches, as well as in selected Just Jewels and Cebuana Lhuillier Jewelry Premium outlets located in SM and Ayala Malls nationwide. You can also buy online through Cebuana FB Live Selling and cebuanalhuillierjewelry.com

The upcoming sale is a good opportunity to start building a solid jewelry investment. With the easing of quarantine restrictions and with impeding bonuses coming this Holiday season, customers are expected to splurge on buying presents for their selves and their loved ones. While others will gravitate towards purchasing luxury items, the best kind of investment is one that does not depreciate in value, like gold jewelry.

“There is always a misconception that investing in jewelry is expensive and reserved only for the privileged. The truth is that there are many ways to build a collection—coming from trusted sources like jewelry shops, pawnshops, and with the advent of digital selling, even in online stores; and with a range of prices depending on your budget. Truth is, there is no better time to start investing in jewelry than today,” shares Cebuana Lhuillier president and CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier.

He adds, “Through the years, the value of gold was always on an upward trend. While it’s trendy to go for the latest gadgets or high-end phones every year; it’s better to invest in jewelry which will serve its owners well especially during times of need.”

Over the years, gold was able to maintain its value in the market. Unlike other investments that are susceptible to inflation, gold and other precious metals perform well even when the economy is bad.

From November 15 to 20, 2021, Cebuana Lhuillier, together with Cebuana Lhuillier Jewelry Premium, and Just Jewels, holds the 2021 Gold Rush Sale. Buyers can get 5% off on all items from Cebuana Lhuillier branches and up to 30% off on its premium line and Just Jewels, as well as on Lazada, Zalora, and Shoppee. The year’s biggest jewelry sale includes jewelries offered in all of Cebuana Lhuillier’s 2,600 branches, as well as in selected Just Jewels and Cebuana Lhuillier Jewelry Premium outlets located in SM and Ayala Malls nationwide. Buyers can likewise participate online through the Cebuana FB Live Selling event or through www.cebuanalhuillierjewelry.com/.

To know more about the latest offers or to know where to get the best deals for the Black Friday Sale, go to the Cebuana Lhuillier, Just Jewels or Cebuana Lhuillier Jewelry Premium Facebook pages.

  • More Filipinos depend on pawning to ease pandemic woes

More Filipinos depend on pawning to ease pandemic woes

Cebuana Lhuillier offers higher appraisal rates; opens more branches to further serve clients.

CONTINUOUSLY GROWING ITS NETWORK TO REACH MORE KA-CEBUANAS. Amidst the pandemic, Cebuana Lhuillier opens more branches to consistently meet the micro-financial needs of every Filipino. Photo shows one of the recently opened Cebuana Lhuillier container van stores located in Kiblawan, Davao del Sur

For over three decades, Cebuana Lhuillier has been a constant ally for many Filipinos, especially those in dire need of financial resources due to emergencies and unexpected expenses. Thanks to its many branches and consistent top-notch service, Cebuana Lhuillier has become a valuable member of every Filipino family since its early days as an emerging pawnshop brand in the early ‘80s.

“Cebuana Lhuillier has always believed in its mission of financial inclusion – ensuring that every Filipino has consistent and reliable access to financial services, especially during times of need. The company has remained consistent with this promise in the last three decades, as reflected in our product offerings, service innovations, and constant efforts to increase our branches to reach many of our kababayans,” shared Cebuana Lhuillier president & CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier.

The need for quick, easy, and reliable access to cash became more pronounced when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the Philippines in early 2020 and strict lockdowns were put in place, with pawnshops serving as a one-stop shop for easy loan and remittance transactions.

A trusted ally during tough times

For clients like Melanie Gratil of Sorsogon, pawning provides her and her family with the opportunity to start anew while also providing funds for important expenses, “Makakatulong ito pandagdag ng puhunan sa aming fruit stand at gastusin ng mga bata sa eskwelahan. Dito ako sa Cebuana Lhuillier kasi maganda ang appraisal rates nila.”

The importance of higher appraisal fees was echoed by another long-term client Jhonyfer Gapa who credits the high appraisal fee as a big factor for his continued patronage. Like Melanie, Jhonyfer uses his pawning proceeds to start and sustain a small business.

Through pawning, clients like Melanie and Jhonyfer are given the opportunity to earn a decent living and continuously provide for their families through their small business which continued to flouris, even in the midst of the pandemic. However, for Raquel Cabigting of Angeles, Pampanga, pawning her valued jewelries has allowed her to sustain a living, especially during these tough times: “May pambili po kami ng pagkain. Salamat po at laging nandiyan ang Cebuana Lhuillier kapag nangangailangan kami ng pera. Natutulungan kami ng pagsasangla,” she shares.

One of the reasons why pawnshops remain an important part of every community is because it’s always accessible to those in need. “Natutuwa ako dahil hindi na ako mahihirapan na magrenew ng sangla dahil nalipat ko na ito sa pinakamalapit na Cebuana branch,” shares Rosana Rosales of Angadanan, Isabela who always relies on pawning for emergency expenses. By moving her pawned items from another pawnshop to a Cebuana Lhuillier pawnshop nearer her residence, she managed to save time and expenses on commute, and remain safe from any unnecessary exposure, especially during these times.

Melanie, Jhonyfer, Raquel, and Rosana are just some of the many Filipinos who continue to rely on pawnshops amidst the pandemic lockdowns. In a recent “Key Indicators for Asia and the Pacific 2021” report by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), 64% of households were in financial distress and had to employ coping strategies. Of this, six out of ten Filipino households that experienced these financial difficulties had to pawn some of their possessions, or worse, reduce their food intake, in order to survive the pandemic. Committed to put more value into pawning

Cebuana Lhuillier understands the impact of its pawning product in the lives of many Filipinos. Since the beginning of the pandemic, all of its branches remained open to serve the long lines of clients waiting to transact at their doors—with many of its branch operations staff remaining committed to keeping their doors open regardless of the lockdown.

To ensure accessibility and convenience at all times, the company is currently in the midst of branch expansion efforts to intensify its presence especially in rural areas where access to financial services is lacking. To date, the company has already opened 40 more branches, including a stand-alone container van branch located in Kiblawan, a second-class municipality located in Davao del Sur.

The three-decade-old company’s commitment to financial accessibility and mobility does not end with the continuous push for expanded physical network, but also extends to its use of various digital channels. Last year, the company launched Cebuana-From-Home, a web-based platform which brings the full pawning experience right at the comfort of its clients’ residences. The page allows users to pawn, renew, and redeem at their convenience. Aside from the website, clients can also do their pawning transactions by typing “Cebuana from Home” in Cebuana Lhuillier’s Facebook Messenger and by also calling or texting the branch nearest them.

Cebuana Lhuillier continues to offer its clients up to 35% higher appraisal rate, giving more value and pawn proceeds for their pawned jewelry and gadgets. Giving its Ka-Cebuanas even more bang for their buck has allowed the company to continuously earn the loyalty of its clients through the years.

Lhuillier adds, “By providing our clients greater accessibility to our pawning service—whether through physical or online channels—while still ensuring that they get the best value for their pawned items highlights Cebuana Lhuillier’s commitment to grow and evolve based on the ever-evolving needs of the market.”

To further add excitement to the company’s push for its pawning service and to usher in the coming Christmas season, Cebuana Lhuillier recently launched the “Sangla Xpress to the Max,” a promo for new pawn and pawn renewal transactions. At stake is a brand-new motorcycle and cash prizes for lucky clients who will transact at any Cebuana Lhuillier branch nationwide or through Cebuana-from-Home. Promo runs until November 14, 2021.

Supplementing the “Sangla Xpress to the Max” promo are recently-launched promos for pawning and remittance transactions specifically customized, based on the company’s regional markets nationwide. With varying prizes from gold j, sacks of rice, motorcycles, gadgets, noche buena packages, and cash prizes up to half a million pesos, the market-specific promotions are pegged to give additional incentives and excitement for Ka-Cebuana clients all the way till December 31, 2021.

COMMITTED TO FINANCIAL INCLUSION. Jean Henri Lhuillier, President & CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier, continues his push for constant innovation in bringing Cebuana Lhuillier’s pawning service to more Filipinos especially during these difficult times.

  • Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation steps up efforts to promote herd immunity against COVID-19

Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation steps up efforts to promote herd immunity against COVID-19

Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation (CLFI), the corporate social responsibility arm of Cebuana Lhuillier, partners with GoNegosyo on a campaign to actively support the humanitarian efforts provided by various private sectors. Their main objective is to help curb the impact of COVID-19 and ensure the health and safety of both community members and private sector employees.

“Our participation in this campaign is in line with the national government’s efforts to address COVID-19. We believe that for us to combat this pandemic and keep everyone safe, tests and vaccinations shall be made available to the public, much more to our employees,” President and CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier said.

In the early stages of the pandemic, CLFI purchased 20,000 rapid kits that were donated to 30 organizations, including national government agencies, public hospitals, various LGU’s, and other non-profit organizations. This joint effort paved the way for the community members in far-flung areas to be tested and checked for COVID-19.

Cebuana Lhuillier likewise allotted kits for its employees, prioritizing their branch personnel who are the company’s frontliners. This has been the company’s practice up to this day since the onset of the pandemic in 2020.

Through GoNegosyo’s private sectors alliance, CLFI was able to procure a total of 27,000 vaccines, which included donations to both the national government, as well as local communities across the country. This also included 9,000 vaccines for PJ Lhuillier Inc.’s own employees.

“Ensuring the health and safety of our employees is part of our commitment to continuously provide financial services to the general public. Our goal is to be able to vaccinate 100% of our employees to assure our customers that they are safe while transacting at any of our branches,” Lhuillier adds.

CLFI’s timely response to the COVID-19 pandemic, through its test kit donation formed part of the foundation’s Tulong Sa Pagbangon campaign, held in 2020. This initiative focuses on providing assistance to sectors severely affected by the pandemic, which included cash donations to partner organizations, relief packs donated in Metro Manila communities, and medical equipment and supplies donated to a number of public hospitals.

SUPPORTING THE BACKBONE OF THE COVID-19 RESPONSE TEAM. Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation (CLFI) actively takes part in its own COVID-19 response by empowering healthcare institutions by further ramping up more tests and vaccinations. Present in the photo are, Jonathan Batangan, CLFI Executive Director (4th from the left) and Dr. Philip Estinar, OIC Assistant Chief of Clinics of Sta. Ana Hospital (5th from the right) together with CLFI employees and hospital staff during one of the Tulong sa Pagbangon campaign activities.

CLFI also partnered with both GMA Kapuso Foundation and ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation to make use of Cebuana Lhuillier branches nationwide as donation remittance centers for its COVID-19 and disaster-related assistance programs.
