Cebu Pacific Takes Active Role in Odette Disaster Relief

In the wake of the destruction brought by Typhoon Odette in Visayas and Mindanao just one week before Christmas 2021, Filipinos gathered in the name of bayanihan to help the affected families and communities rise and rebuild.

Cebu Pacific (CEB), the Philippines’ leading airline, worked hand-in-hand with government agencies, non-profit organizations, and regular citizens in extending help and uplifting lives. With its large, nationwide coverage of flights and personnel who are rooted in the company value of service excellence, CEB was able to quickly mobilize relief to affected areas.

    From the air to on-the-ground

The country’s preferred cargo carrier with the widest domestic network partnered with the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) and the Office of Civil Defense to provide special humanitarian flights for 32 medical personnel from Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital and Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium, along with a cargo of assorted medicines and medical equipment from the Department of Health (DOH) to the CARAGA Region via Siargao. This was part of an urgent medical mission to Odette-impacted communities who were suffering from a stomach flu outbreak due to the lack of potable water in these areas.

PDRF President Butch Meily was thankful for the airline’s help in bringing medical aid to those communities. “Cebu Pacific’s assistance has been crucial in getting the PDRF team, healthcare professionals, medicine, and relief goods to areas where they were desperately needed. We are grateful to the men and women of the airline for their support,” he said.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) likewise tapped the logistical support of Cebu Pacific to expedite the delivery of relief items to areas affected by Typhoon Odette. Around 1,340 family food packs were transported by the airline to Caticlan, Cebu, and Palawan from December 22 to 30, 2021. The cargo also included 30,000 pieces of Disaster Assistance Family Access Card (DAFAC) forms which helped the DSWD ensure that all families hit by Typhoon Odette are given appropriate assistance through a monitoring system.

“With the extent of damage caused by Typhoon Odette in transportation, electricity and communication lines, the generosity and support of Cebu Pacific to the DSWD’s relief operations greatly helped in the expeditious delivery of the much-needed assistance to our affected kababayans,” DSWD Secretary Rolando Joselito Bautista said.

One of the challenges in the disaster-stricken areas was to prevent a surge of COVID-19 in their evacuation centers. To help monitor the number of COVID cases in Eastern Visayas, the World Health Organization (WHO) Philippines dispatched 2,000 rapid antigen test kits to the region, tapping Cebu Pacific as its logistics partner to transport the test kits to Tacloban City last January 7. Cebu Pacific airlifted additional antigen kits for WHO Philippines on the week of February 7     .

Cebu Pacific was also supportive of private initiatives such as the distribution of Waves for Water filtration systems by travel vlogger Kyle Jennerman and Northern Mindanao Mountaineering Society to the coastal barangays Bayanihan and San Antonio in the Municipality of Libjo in Dinagat islands. The airline was able to fly out the filtration buckets from Manila to provide safe drinking water for the communities. “Without the help of Cebu Pacific, we wouldn’t have been able to bring these donated water filters at a critical time when its most needed in the community. We are so thankful.” according to volunteer organizer Sam Jennings.

Animal welfare was another major concern during the recent calamity, and Cebu Pacific helped PeTA Asia care for the affected people and pets by carrying three shipments of 350kgs of animal and human food including rice, canned goods, water filters, vet meds, solar panel, tarps, and drinking water for the Bohol Animal Rescue and Kindness (BARK) Center in Bohol and the Island Rescue Organization in Cebu.

    Continuous commitment

Massive rebuilding efforts are still being conducted in many of the typhoon-affected areas. Damage to agriculture and infrastructure has been reported in several areas of Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

With the renowned resilience of the Filipino, affected communities are rising up against the challenges, and Cebu Pacific Air is committed to continuing its support for these initiatives.

“Aside from offering safe and reliable travels to our different local and international destinations, we want to continue to make life better for veryjuan, and this includes being there for our kababayans most especially in their time of need,” says Michael Ivan Shau, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Cebu Pacific.

For those interested to partner with CEB, humanitarian requests may be sent to socialresponsibility@cebupacificair.com.

  • Coco Martin supports new partylist advocating for livelihood and the transport sector

Coco Martin supports new partylist advocating for livelihood and the transport sector

Coco Martin, famously known as Cardo Dalisay on-screen, is making rounds all over as he debuts his endorsement not of the partylist with the same name as his show, but of a new party-list – AP Partylist #AkoyPilipino on Friday, February 25.

“Anuman ang hirap na ating pinagdadaanan, may kakampi na tayo…” Martin introduced his new party-list group with first nominee Rep. Ronnie Ong in-action in the background in the partylist’s video now circulating online. He continues, “Ang AP Partylist ang tutulong magbigay ng trabaho at kabuhayan sa mga manggagawang Pilipino.”

Rep. Ronnie Ong is Coco Martin’s long-time friend and is nicknamed by PeopleAsia as the “frontliner Congressman.” Ong is known for his various out-of-the-box COVID-19 Bayanihan projects since the first lockdown, such as his #LibrengSakay program for healthworkers, #LibrengGulay program for community kitchens, #LibrengTablets and E-skwela Hub e-learning centers for students and teachers.

Before the pandemic, Ong also supported senior citizens looking for employment through his Tulong Pangkabuhayan program, deploying various able-bodied and willing-to-work seniors at airports, public universities and government agencies. During the pandemic, he also helped out-of-work transport workers such as UV Express or FX drivers by employing them as #LibrengSakay drivers, as well as some laid-off ABS-CBN employees who found alternative work as contact tracers.

More than just Coco Martin, the all-star cast of Ang Probinsyano forming the famed “Task Force Agila,” has also expressed their support for AP Partylist on their social media pages, sharing the various advocacies of AP Partylist closest to them. “Mula po noong umpisa nakasama na namin si Cong. Ronnie, at kita namin na nagtrabaho talaga siya, naglingkod talaga siya. Kaya ngayon, ang #164 AP Partylist na kasama siya ang sinusuportahan na namin. Sana po ay suportahan niyo rin,” Coco Martin said.

Aside from the endorsement video, AP Partylist also collaborated with OPM artists Bassilyo, Sisa and Smugglaz with their “Ako’y Pilipino,” anthem that sings of the pride, perseverance, and hardwork of Filipinos. They sing, “Ikaw ay magtiwala, magtiwalang may magagawa. Ito na ang panahon, ang tamang pagkakataon, sa bawat daing mo’y magtutugon. Ako’y Pilipinong lumalaban, tumatapang, lalo kung nasusugatan, anumang pagsubok ang daanan, haharapin nang may kagitingan. Itaas mo ang noo, isigaw mo sa buong mundo, ako’y Pilipino.” Both videos are available on Youtube and on AP Party-list’s official social media pages.

Coco Martin calls on the audience to join him on his new journey with his new partylist, “Dito na tayo sa biyaheng aasenso ang lahat ng Pilipino… AP Partylist #AkoyPilipino, number 164 sa balota.”

  • Discover the Best Items to Complete Your Wedding Journey at the Shopee Wedding Expo

Discover the Best Items to Complete Your Wedding Journey at the Shopee Wedding Expo

From February 26-27, couples, wedding planners, and stylists can maximize big discounts, redeem exclusive deals and more at the Shopee Wedding Expo.

Getting ready for the big day? Planning weddings can be daunting and exciting for all those involved, made even more complicated by the changing safety protocols in the last two years. If you’re recently engaged and don’t know where to begin, or if you’re one of the trusted friends and family tasked to make things happen, why not try sourcing all your wedding needs on Shopee? Brides and grooms-to-be can enjoy big discounts, coins cashback, and more at the Shopee Wedding Expo happening from February 26-27.

Shopee offers a very unique shopping experience, especially for couples looking to DIY their weddings and stylists who have to source their materials for the festivities. The Shopee Wedding Expo is packed with awesome deals from a wide assortment of wedding must-haves that’ll cover the preparations before the ceremony all the way to the reception. Be inspired by the stories of our Shopee Fam, newlywed couple George and T-Ann, and renowned event stylist Teddy Manuel, who prove that Shopee is indeed a gold mine for wedding essentials.

George and T-Ann achieve their DIY wedding on a budget with Shopee

Before getting married earlier this month, George and T-Ann faced difficulties canvassing materials for their wedding. The couple, who had been together five years, turned to Shopee to purchase almost everything they needed for their celebration. Although both were busy with their respective schedules (George running their family business and T-Ann just finishing her residency as a physician), they were able to contact and secure a few suppliers for their decorations. Still, they had a lot on their checklist which weren’t readily available.

With shopping malls and Divisoria being crowded and risky to visit, they opted to buy on Shopee the remaining materials for their arches, scented candles and table toppers, and even their souvenirs for more than 100 guests. Not only did the couple cut down significantly on expenses, but they also enjoyed the process of making the decorations. “Don’t be afraid to DIY. It adds a personal touch to the wedding. Our relatives all came together to help create some of our big decorations. These became priceless moments we’ll treasure together forever.”

For couples also considering a  DIY wedding, George and T-Ann advise them to focus on affordable, quality raw materials that look premium and professionally put together. The couple also suggests buying a sample first to check the quality before ordering in bulk. Want a fairytale-like wedding? The couple recommends these fairy and geometric lights that spruced up their venue and these personalized scented candles that served as giveaways to the guests. “Shopee really played a big part in our wedding preparations, as most items were already available there at very affordable prices. It was so convenient for us, since we didn’t have to worry about spending money on parking and gas and going to crowded places.”

Teddy Manuel turns to Shopee for his event styling needs

Teddy Manuel is a popular event stylist who has been making waves in the industry for almost two decades. Widely regarded as one of the pioneers in his craft, Teddy puts in a lot of time and effort in making his clients’ weddings aesthetically pleasing — from entrance decors for the entourage to the backdrop and ceiling works at the reception. When the pandemic hit, he had to adapt accordingly as sourcing materials internationally became a challenge due to stricter protocols and logistical delays. Teddy’s resourcefulness led him to try Shopee as his new go-to supplier.

With more couples opting for intimate weddings, Teddy focuses on the smallest details that can create a big impact at the wedding venue. He shares his most important tip for wedding planning: always be cohesive. “It’s important that everything ties together. Stick to a color scheme and work your way from there. Check Shopee for the specific products that you need and you’ll surely find a lot of options.” Among Teddy’s favorite Shopee finds are these hanging silk flowers and these white parasols, both of which add lush elegance to any event space. He also looks to Shopee for tableware such as this beautifully-crafted, gold-rimmed ceramic Nordic plate for the perfect finishing touch to his set-up.

“When you’re ordering online, it’s crucial that you read the description and contact the seller to get further information about the product. I’m grateful that I’ve gotten affordable and high-quality products on Shopee — and  since all I have to do is add them to my cart, it’s easier for me to manage other tasks and responsibilities for the wedding too.”

Here are some of the best deals to watch out for in the Shopee Wedding Expo, perfect for the ceremony proper or the reception that follows: a stylish but budget-friendly men’s formal suit, artificial flowers for venue decors, hook drop earrings to glam you up, and thick bottom sandals to complete your outfit.

The Shopee Wedding Expo will happen from February 26 to 27, 2022. You can also enjoy 10% off (minimum spend of ₱1,000, capped at ₱500) on select products and get a more rewarding shopping experience when you checkout using ShopeePay’s free shipping vouchers. Check out a bunch of wedding preparation deals for as low as ₱1 when you pay via ShopeePay at partner merchants such as Resorts World Manila and FlowerStore.ph. After the expo, you can proceed with shopping for more wedding needs by maximizing ShopeePay’s free transfers feature and sending payments to suppliers that only accept bank transfers as a mode of payment.

Don’t let the stressful wedding preparations ruin the romantic getaway with your better half. You deserve to relax and recharge on your honeymoon. With ShopeePay, you can get great promos at some of the country’s luxurious hotels to make the experience even more special. Get 20% cashback when you book your hotel bookings, including Estacio Uno Boracay, Mithi Resort and Spa Bohol, and White Breeze Palawan on Shopee and pay with ShopeePay. • Shopee seller couple proves how love, teamwork, and trust fuel their successful business and strengthen their relationship

Shopee seller couple proves how love, teamwork, and trust fuel their successful business and strengthen their relationship

Rommel and Ajima’s goal of funding their dream wedding and honeymoon turned out to be the start of a full-scale business that transformed their lives.

Having your life partner by your side through the good times and the bad is one of life’s greatest delights. While many believe that it’s not a good idea to start a business with your partner, the young couple behind the Shopee store  BuyMore_Ph proves it can work. Rommel and Ajima’s inspirational love story and Shopee journey are testaments to how teamwork, trust, and communication can lead to success in their personal and professional lives.

Blossoming of the relationship and the beginning of their Shopee journey

Rommel and Ajima started selling on Shopee in 2017 as a newly-engaged couple looking for a side hustle to fund their wedding and honeymoon. In their early days on Shopee, they would sell trendy items such as lip tints and ready-to-wear clothes for men and women.

They admit that it was not easy at first but what helped their business succeed was  to tap into  the current trends. The couple explained, “sumasabay kami sa uso para maka-attract ng customers at nagiging open kami to more variety sa shop namin para mas marami talaga bumili.” [“We had to ride on the trends during that time to offer customers with a wide variety of items that they would be interested in.”]

The turning point of their business happened in 2018 as their shop continued to perform well and more Filipinos began to embrace e-commerce. Rommel, then an IT specialist, and Ajima, a licensed tax consultant, made the crucial decision to quit their jobs and become  full-time Shopee sellers. It was daunting, but the couple remained optimistic. After all, now they have more time together as they run their business. “Parang cheesy siya pero sa totoo lang mas masarap talaga mag work kung may goals kayo hanggang pagtanda,” shared Ajima. [“It’s quite cheesy but honestly it really feels so good to work with your partner when you have shared goals until you grow old together.”]

Growing together as husband and wife and business partners in life

When asked what their secret was, the couple says it’s learning how to manage their emotions, in and out of work.  Rommel shares “Natutunan namin ihiwalay ang emotions sa trabaho as much as possible [“we learned to compartmentalize our emotions when it comes to the business], and we’re still learning everyday how to improve that. Hindi namin hinahayaan na mangibabaw ang emotions” [“we don’t let emotions get the best of us”], to which Ajima agreed and said, “More than husband and wife, we’re partners in everything”

Their relationship wasn’t the only thing that grew due to their business. They also grew as individuals, becoming more empathetic and decisive in handling their employees was something new to the both of them. With their success, BuyMore_Ph has been able to grant invaluable opportunities to working students and individuals who lost their jobs due to the pandemic, and even some who were unable to finish their studies, especially during these more challenging times.

Rommel, who is more soft-spoken one among the couple, learned to go out of his comfort zone and lead his employees. “Hindi talaga ako masyado makausap sa tao, pero kailangan kong kausapin sila isa-isa para alamin kung ano ang problema.” [I’m not a very talkative and outspoken person but I had to learn how to talk to different kinds of people to resolve issues.]

The couple recognizes the huge role their employees have in the success they’ve achieved. “Super thankful din kami sa kanila kasi nakahanap kami ng tao na may concern din sa kung paano namin pinahalagahan yung business namin,”  [“we’re very grateful to have found people who value our business the way we do”] Rommel said.

Inspiring other couples to be persevering and entrepreneurial

The seller couple advises other Shopee sellers to not give up and to trust the process. There may be times when certain strategies don’t always work, but Rommel and Ajima believe that sticking together and enjoying the journey will ultimately reap rewards. Ajima reminds couples who also dream of becoming entrepreneurs to play to each other’s strengths and complement each other’s weaknesses,“kung ano kulang ng isa, napupunan ng isa.” [“whatever one lacks, the other will make up for”]

Rommel and Ajima never expected their once small goal of earning extra income to become a life-changing opportunity for them, their family, and their employees. BuyMore_Ph is now one of the top-selling stores on Shopee with over 1.9M followers. In a few months, Rommel, Ajima, and their almost one-year old baby (who was born during the 5.5 rush of 2021, no less) will move into their dream house. They continue to oversee more than 40 employees and the operations of their warehouse, as they venture into more ways to expand their business this 2022.
