Virtual Card empowers gamers’ online experience with easy online payment option

MANILA  History has been made with the announcement of Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC)’s partnership with the country’s first-ever franchise-model mobile and desktop e-sports league, The Nationals. This is the first time that a local financial institution has officially supported such an event, recognizing electronic gaming community as one of today’s fastest growing e-commerce markets.

Despite being one of the biggest markets for online purchases, today’s gamers know all too well the frustration of not being able to purchase in-game upgrades or special items without a credit card. To address this, RCBC introduced the MyWallet Virtual Card –  a reloadable Visa prepaid card that gamers can use to buy ePins, DLCs and other upgrades online for their favorite games, even without a credit card.  The MyWallet Virtual Card has no monthly maintaining balance and users can be assured of security because they only need to load it with as much cash that they’re comfortable with at any given time.

With RCBC supporting The Road to Nationals, every participant will be registered to their own MyWallet Virtual Cards when they sign up for the tournament.

Outside of The Nationals, the MyWallet Virtual Card is available to anyone looking for a safe & convenient payment solution for shopping online, booking flights & even paying bills. Applicants can easily sign up for a MyWallet Virtual Card via the RCBC online banking website for free.

Beginning with Road to The Nationals running through until the end of October, viewers will be able to follow their favorite professional Pinoy gamers via broadcast and online coverage on ESPN-5.

With Road to The Nationals currently ongoing, the RCBC MyWallet Virtual Card is proud to play a vital role in Philippines’ entry into the global e-sports tournament scene, while giving a new generation access to the world of safe and convenient online transactions. To apply for your own RCBC MyWallet Virtual Card, visit rcbconlinebanking.com/web/vr

  • How to Make Opening Your Dream Restaurant a Whole Lot Cheaper

How to Make Opening Your Dream Restaurant a Whole Lot Cheaper

Every restaurant is someone’s passion project – at least they start out that way. The restaurant business is a tough playground and even the strong often have trouble surviving. If you’re looking to open your own eatery, you should do whatever you can to avoid putting yourself behind the 8-ball, financially speaking. Starting a restaurant business can be expensive. Cutting costs from the outset is crucial. Here’s how to kick off your adventure with saving money in mind.

Rent your space, and rent smartly

While buying your restaurant location may be your ultimate goal, there is certainly benefits to leasing in the beginning (especially if it’s your first restaurant). Rent is typically cheaper than the combo of a mortgage payment and property taxes, for one. Also, leasing a space allows you to put that extra capital toward other things such as buying equipment, decor and labor. You’ll want to negotiate a good lease, however. Don’t be afraid to push for splitting up maintenance and repair costs, or opting for a percentage-based rent structure at first.

Or take your show on the road

A new restaurant doesn’t even have to have a traditional storefront. While mobile meals have been a thing for hundreds of years, the last decade or so has seen an explosion in the food truck scene. With a food truck, your kitchen is small but your equipment and utility costs are lower. Plus, you can buy an old food truck and fix it up to your liking for fairly cheap. Not only that, but you can now go where the people are instead of waiting for them to come to you. It’s proactive marketing. Do your research, however. There are ways to save even more once you get that food truck up and running.

Be ruthless when it comes to food costs

Restaurants are won and lost on the smallest of margins, and by far the biggest place where you can save money is in the realm of food costs. Tailor your menu so that you can avoid food waste. Don’t throw anything away. Run specials. Buy bulk when you can. Begin running analytics on your food costs from day one. Know your profit margins for every single item on the menu. Don’t be afraid to make menu cuts early if something has too high of a food cost. Early is when you need to make these changes.

    Don’t overspend on marketing

It’s not uncommon for new restaurants to sink precious startup capital into what they feel is necessary, traditional marketing campaigns (TV and radio ads, print, even door-to-door flyers and such). This is a mistake, at least in the beginning. Social media sites including Facebook, Twitter and especially Instagram allow you to promote yourself for free. You can quickly and dramatically increase your followers and social reach with a few strategic steps such as partnering with another brand, using Instagram posts in blog posts and asking customers to share photos and tag you. You should also look into using the concept of pop-ups as marketing, as they are a way to promote your brand as well as make money!

    Get creative with your funding

It surely counts as saving money if other people give you money to put into your restaurant. While the holy grail of this concept is finding an angel investor or two to throw cash your way, it’s more likely that you’ll be able to get smaller investments from many more people through crowdfunding on sites such as Kickstarter and GoFundMe. Be sure to start your social media marketing campaigns before you ask for money – you want to build hype first!

Succeeding in the restaurant biz takes planning, hard work and a little bit of luck. It takes a great menu, cool concept and buzz around your community. But even with all of that, if you’re leaking cash from the get-go, you’re on the road to failure. Shore up your budget and focus as much as you can on saving money during the early days. To achieve your dream, you need to spend wisely.

  • TuneCycle pumps up recycling experience at Coke Studio

TuneCycle pumps up recycling experience at Coke Studio

For most people, waste recycling and creating music are simply two things that are worlds apart. But at the recent launch of Coke Studio Season 2 at the World Trade Center in Manila, these two ideas shared one stage to raise awareness about a growing plastic waste problem among the youth.

One of the highlights of the event was a live demonstration of the TuneCycle, a makeshift recyclable PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottle grinder that is powered by a pedal mechanism – similar to those found in bicycles. The TuneCycle also has earphones for the user to listen to original Pilipino music (OPM) as they pedal away.

This is part of the global goal of The Coca-Cola Company of a World Without Waste. In January this year, Coca-Cola announced an ambitious goal to collect and recycle the equivalent of every bottle or can sold by year 2030. In the Philippines, one of the ways to reach this goal is to bring back PET bottles home through Coke Studio.

(From left) Coca-Cola ASEAN VP for Marketing Jose Luis Basauri, Coca-Cola Philippines Director of Public Affairs Jonah de Lumen-Pernia, and Vice President for Marketing Stephan Czypionka, try out the Coke Studio TuneCycle – a stationary bicycle that shreds PET bottles and other plastics to be used as ecobricks and pervious pavers.

“This is an interactive way of making the public, particularly the youth, more involved in recycling. It may be a small step, but it helps inculcate the act of recycling in their lives. As we at Coca-Cola continue to find solutions to realize a World Without Waste, every action, no matter how small, actually counts,” said Jonah de Lumen-Pernia, Director for Public Affairs and Communications of Coca-Cola Philippines.

As one of the avenues that bring Coca-Cola closer to the youth, music is also being tapped to make recycling more relevant to the younger market. As part of the Coke Studio caravan, the TuneCycle aims to amplify how each recyclable PET bottle can have another purpose after the consumption of its content. In the case of TuneCycle, the shredded recyclable PET bottles will become part of eco-bricks that will serve as pavers for a public school.

“Every action to breathe new life into recyclables matters. Every action brings us closer to realizing the vision of a World Without Waste. With the TuneCycle, we are able to inspire more people to find ways for recyclable PET bottles to come home and breathe second lives into them, instead of throwing them in dumpsites, or worst, ending up in our oceans,” said de Lumen-Pernia.

The Coca-Cola leadership team initiates action for the global World Without Waste mission with the Coke Studio TuneCycle.

Watch out for future Coke Studio events and bring recyclable PET bottles to their home in Coca-Cola.

  • RCBC encourages consumers to take active actions towards account security

RCBC encourages consumers to take active actions towards account security

The account safety and security of every banking consumer will always be the priority of any financial institution. Nowadays, many banks are improving their systems and taking active measures to prevent threats of loss, breach, or fraud to their clients’ bank account.

One of the largest commercial banks in the country, RCBC has long been recognized to be a trusted banking partner of many Filipinos. As it continues to put its customers first, it takes action to educate everyone about how they can help safeguard their accounts.

As a Bank customer, here are some simple practices you can follow to keep the integrity of your account:

Inform your bank about changes in your personal information

Just like how you should change your bank PIN to avoid fraudulent activities, personal details such as contact numbers, email addresses, and home addresses must also be updated as it helps the bank in making sure that information is securely delivered only to you.

Be aware of who you are speaking to

Do not disclose any sensitive information to just anyone. Nowadays, scammers are going as far as posing like a regular employee from your certified bank. They might ask you to give card details in exchange of interesting promos and prizes. Know that RCBC will never ask for your password, PIN or security code on the phone or online.

    Regularly review transaction history

Know your finances and always keep yourself up-to-date about the current balance of your account. RCBC offers hassle-free online viewing of your statement of account, or eStatements, when you visit www.rcbconlinebanking.com and enroll your account. You may still opt to have a printed copy delivered to your mail address or picked up at your branch of account subject to corresponding monthly fees.

Keep records of your banking activities

All your transactions are recorded in your monthly Statement of Account. Make sure you regularly review this to ensure that transactions reflected there are actually your own. For transactions done over the bank counter, it helps to secure a machine validated slip of your exchange with the bank before leaving the branch premises.

If you have a passbook, do not forget to bring it with you and have it updated to help manage your finances. You must also take the transaction receipts every time you go to the ATM to keep track of your daily cash withdrawals. For online transactions, make it a habit to check the confirmation emails that you will receive.Along with these useful tips, RCBC wants to assure its banking clients that they are using advanced security technology and are putting quality systems and processes in place to help defend accounts from online and offline threats by issuing a One-Time-Password (OTP) sent to the client’s mobile number for online transactions.

The bank continues to empower Filipinos with innovative financial products and services that safeguard the trust that consumers have placed upon them.

RCBC widens its online fund transfer network, offers lower interbank transfer rates with Instapay

Many Filipinos today are turning to various digital platforms to make their everyday transactions quick and easy. Even local companies and organizations are shifting to online channels with programs that provide convenience and efficiency for their consumers.

Recently, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has introduced the National Retail Payment System (NRPS) framework to help create a safe, efficient, affordable and reliable electronic payment system that is interconnected and interoperable, to pave the way for the country’s transition to a cash-lite economy.

In support of this endeavor, RCBC further elevates its services to bring a more efficient and affordable way of sending and receiving money anytime and anywhere in the country, with Instapay. Through this partnership, RCBC expands its network for interbank fund transfer to more than 20 financial institutions – including Bancnet banks and Instapay partners – enabling their clients to do real-time electronic payments & credit transfers.

RCBC clients can experience more convenient transfers as Instapay transactions can be done in various electronic channels. It is accessible 24 hours a day using RCBC Online Banking platforms, both available in app and web formats, saving the hassle of actually going to a bank or payment counter and lining up to make a transaction.

With Instapay, RCBC account holders can also enjoy lower fees and charges, as low as P15 per transfer, as long as the receiving bank is a legitimate service partner. To start transacting via Instapay, RCBC customers should enroll their active checking or savings account in online banking. The recipient from the other bank should also be registered as a beneficiary to be able to receive the funds.

To enroll an account, just choose the bank that is also a listed participant of Instapay, input the account number and full name of the beneficiary, then click “submit”. Once enrolled as beneficiary, transfers to these accounts will be automatically routed. Since RCBC is also an active Instapay receiver, you can accept funds & credits transferred to your RCBC account sent from other Instapay banks. You can simply wait for the fund to be credited to your RCBC account & check your balance online.

Customers can transfer up to P50,000 per transaction and funds are instantly credited to the receiving account in full as there is no fee charged for the electronic fund transfer. However, consumers who will send money may be charged depending on their bank.

Along with BSP, RCBC is making the move to use online platforms for all transactions. So the next time you have urgent bills to pay or need to send allowance to a family member, just log-in to your RCBC online banking account and transfer money via Instapay.
